FLOATING POINTS PERORATION 6 VR
A Music Experience that explores the connection between music and VR storytelling.
When I first discovered VR, I instantly fell in love with this new medium and felt the urge to explore the new storytelling possibilities it offered.
I also saw it as the perfect tool to enhance the raw emotions of the music that makes it so powerful and unique. Whether it is the feeling of euphoria in a club or a melancholic ballad in the intimacy of our headphones, music can touch us to the core of our soul, expressing emotions more eloquently than words ever can. Combined with the immersive power of virtual reality and the initimacy provided by a headset, it creates the ideal tool to move the audience at a really deep and non verbal level.
So when I'm asked why I chose to make a music experience as my debut VR film, I think of intimacy, immersion and experiences that are so characteristic of these two formats. For me, the VR challenges our most basic perceptions and ideas about visual language, storytelling, participation and enhances the emotional response and our ability to perceive music.

ARK - UMBA
Umba started as a collaboration between a
filmmaker (Fabien Coupez), a music producer
known as one of the father of the French House
& Experimental Music (Guillaume Berroyer aka
ARK) and a choreographer who usually works
with Steve Reich and Philipp Glass (Katherine
Helen Fisher).
Umba is Fabien Coupez’s project
who wanted to explore the narrative links between
music and picture. The script was entirely written
starting from the music and the music was
adapted to the picture once the shooting and the
editing were completed. Umba can be seen as a
critic of modern society told through the tragic
story of a dead girl and her improbable encounter
with the dregs of American society.
Awards and Screenings
Umba was exhibited in a solo room at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taichung, Taiwan) from April to June in 2015 and at the Ming Contemporary Art Museum (Shanghai, China) in 2017.
